Nelson Mandela, who studied Mahatma Gandhi, died yesterday. Mandela differed from the pure philosophical anarchist views of Gandhiji in that he was a "democratic socialist." He believed in moving society through the elected violence of the state over time toward collectivism, which is very similar to the American Democratic Party's approach. This makes him differ from philosophical anarchists like Jesus Christ, the 14th Dalai Lama, Gandhiji, Dr. Noam Chomsky and myself.
As a politician, I'd say he was close, but no cigar.
