If you are running for political office, and you do not understand the underlying intellectual gunfight, then you are going to be incapable of choosing a side and helping to resolve the problem between state-centric forced collectivism and individual liberty. Several names you need to know are Karl Marx and Sir Maynard Keynes, representing the Marxist state-centric forced collectivism side of the gunfight, and Ludwig von Mises, Nobel Laureate F. A. Hayek, Murray N. Rothbard and Milton Friedman, who represent the individual liberty side of the equation.
If you don't have at least one book by each of these individuals in your library, please do not think you have a positive contribution to make to any political endeavor. You will do more damage than a blind surgeon.
