Re:  Demand for Special Session of the Texas Legislature to Address Religious Bigotry in Ballot Access

Dear Governor Perry:

For the past weeks and months, I have been in dialogue with the Texas Secretary of State's Office, the Office of the Texas Attorney General and Texas Senator Jane Nelson's office, concerning my need for access to the Texas gubernatorial ballot in 2014, being a Gandhian (one who worships God as Truth Only).  As you know, Gandhians are some of the most respected political and economic minds on earth, central to the development of peace and prosperity for the people they serve.

We Gandhians do not willfully place ourselves under the temporal laws of man, for man's laws are violence, and violence is illegitimate to Truth Only, who is God.  This means that we neither willfully swear nor affirm anything, but serve Truth Only.

I am required to violate my religion and either "swear" or "affirm" to have access to the Texas ballot in 2014, according to the current read of the Texas Constitution, based on my last exchange with Senator Nelson's office this past week.  It will require I miss the 2014 election cycle in order to have the Texas Constitution changed to respect my religion in 2015.

Therefore, I am demanding you call the Texas Legislature into Special Session to make a provision for Gandhians to have ballot access under Texas law.  Let us not continue this violence against the 1st Amendment rights of Gandhians, who seek to be both servants of Truth Only (God) and the people.

Most respectfully,

Gene Chapman
